MASS’s pavilion for the 2015 Design Biennial Boston was fabricated locally using short-strut scrap material, and later disassembled and recycled for future use.
An opening in the diagrid dome reveals a passage through a tapering tunnel, and leads to central courtyard with a window to the sky.
Initially intended to be a cone intersecting a cylinder, the form and curvature had to be redetermined using structural analysis software to respond to live loads of potential climbers.
